Auburn game today: Tiger fans out in full force in State College
Our very own Mary Kate Hughes was one of the many Tiger fans that made the pilgrimage north to State College to see Auburn take on Penn State in Week Three of college football’s main event.
People from the Plains and all over the south are up north for what is only the 11th time an SEC team is taking on a Big Ten program in a ranked matchup.
In front of a bigger crowd than ever before, Auburn marches into a marquee matchup as the underdog. That is par for the course, but this matchup isn’t.
This is the first time in 90 years that the Tigers will be the away team at a Big Ten stadium.
Good thing an army of orange will be disrupting the Nittany Lions White Out:
"Beaver Stadium, which features a grass field, is expected to be visited by thousands of Auburn fans. Auburn received 6,000 tickets from PSU to sell and based on the number of Auburn fans in the area who arrived early it looks like there was activity on the secondary market from the visiting team’s supporters to come up with extra tickets.–Mark Murphy"
All week, we’ve heard about Beaver Stadium overwhelming Bo Nix. We’ve heard the same about Penn State’s defense.
Now, it’s put up or shut up for both Auburn and a Penn State team that has a realistic chance of winning the Big Ten considering how underwhelming Ohio State has looked. After impressive wins on the road against Wisconsin and against the defending MAC Champions Ball State at home, the Nittany Lions host a red-hot Auburn team that has ran up the score against low level opponents but has looked crisper than they have in years while doing it.
Bryan Harsin faces his first true test tonight as head coach of the Auburn Tigers. If AU has ambitions of CFP appearances, this is every bit as much of a must-win game for them too.
