Boom may be the predecessor’s tagline, but Bryan Harsin burst onto the scene with an explosive 50-point victory in his first home game at JHS.
The Tigers trounced the MAC’s Akron 60-10 in what was a picturesque debut under the lights in Week 1.
What made this a particularly simple time was how dominant Bo Nix was. The recently-benched QB was 20/22, threw for 275 yards and had three TDs through the air.
This was before his biggest disappointment…which led to AU’s biggest triumph in 2021…

Losing to Georgia State would have effectively killed much of the hype for this year’s team. Unless the most unpredictable schedule in college football history somehow ended up with upsets over currently-higher ranked teams like Ole Miss, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Georgia, and/or Alabama, the Panthers would have sealed a .500 season for Auburn. Or worse.
Because Bryan Harsin made the ultimate call to replace the struggling Bo Nix with TJ Finley, one of the most incredible fourth quarter drives was engineered for a guy who many believed would be in this exact spot this past offseason.
98-yard drive? Check. Evading a sack on fourth down to throw a go-ahead touch down? Check.
Somehow, Finley’s comeback is leading to people lashing out at Harsin. Given the result–and even with a spread being nowhere near close to covered this past Saturday–we’re pretty high on cloud nine, and not in the mood to bring anyone else down like a certain bitter ex-Tigers coach…
