Auburn football: DotD worried about Tiger RBs and DL against Georgia
Georgia fans are not worried about this being the year for Auburn football QB Bo Nix, who just engineered his greatest comeback as the leading man in the Tigers offense against LSU.
Instead, AU’s dynamic RB duo of Tank Bigsby and Jarquez Hunter is who Bulldog fans want their defense to hone in on.
Dawn of the Dawg’s Jeffrey Stevens outlined his 3 opposing players to watch and Auburn’s 1-2 backfield punch was 2/3rds of them.
Hunter’s big play abilities drew the attention of Stevens:
"This freshman running back is someone Georgia’s defense will have to keep their eyes on at all times. While Hunter leads Auburn with 447 rushing yards, he has only run the ball 42 times through five games. No, I don’t see Hunter averaging close to 10 yards a carry against the Dawgs, but he can take off on any given play."
Bigsby, on the other hand, has DotD’s eyes popping out of their heads from his YPC:
"Bigsby is the workhorse of the Tiger’s backfield. He has run the ball 74 times for 430 yards and four touchdowns. As impressive as Hunter’s 10 yards a touch have been, Bigsby is averaging 5.8 yards a carry himself. This number has to be taken seriously and accounted for because it’s impressive."
As for the third player, well, it’s not just one player. In fantasy football fashion, Stevens lumped the DL together, noting their brick-wall qualities in what has been a fine season–minus the Georgia State game–for Derek Mason and Nick Eason’s defensive front:
"Regardless of who is under center for the Dawgs Saturday at Auburn, the Georgia ground attack will need to have a big game. The Tigers have been holding opponents to an average of 294 yards per game, with only 86 of them coming on the ground. Auburn has allowed an opponent to run the ball for over 100 yards just once in their first five games. In three of those games, they held the team under a total of 50 rushing yards."
Essentially, this Saturday needs to be a grind-it-out game for Bryan Harsin and co. if Auburn football has any chance of upsetting the country’s #2 team.
DotD knows that, and most observers expect the same. Unless of course Bo Nix isn’t done evading any defender looking to take him down behind the line of scrimmage…then all bets are off.
