Auburn football fans are waiting on the edge of their seats to see where 4-star wide receiver Darrius Clemons will decide to play college football. With the Tigers’ ever-growing receiver problem, the team is desperate for new talent.
One of first-year head coach Bryan Harsin’s top targets in the 2022 class has to be Clemons, who is listed as the #1 recruit out of the state of Oregon and the #20 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2022.
The WR named a top three of Penn State, Oregon, and Auburn on August 1, but has remained vague about when he will make his final decision. However, with the early signing period looming just two months away, Auburn football fans will know soon enough if the WR will wear orange and blue.
Clemons has visited all three of his top schools but still has yet to take his official visit to Oregon. Aside from being in the nation’s most elite conference, one of the biggest reasons for Clemons to choose Auburn football is the obvious need. It’s clear from this season that should Clemons become a Tiger he would have a huge opportunity to get early playing time.
Keith Niebuhr of Auburn Undercover reports that Clemons, were he to commit to Auburn, would be a January enrollee, meaning his commitment will take place by then. Clemons was recently invited to play in the 2022 All-American Bowl, and the WR may intend to announce his decision at the game, per Oregon Live:
"While he has no timetable for a college decision, the Westview star indicated that the All-American Bowl might be his chosen venue to announce his commitment. The 2022 All-American Bowl, arguably the nation’s best high school all-star game, will kick off at 10 a.m. (PT) on Saturday, January 8, 2022 in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas and will be nationally televised on NBC."
While the Tigers are looking good in the eyes of 4-star Clemons, it’s possible there will be no decision until January. Check back to Fly War Eagle for more information on Darrius Clemons and the other major recruiting targets for Auburn football.
