Auburn football area of improvement #3: Re-establishing their own run game

The last few weeks has seen the Auburn running back hype wane considerably after Tank Bigsby and Jarquez Hunter burst onto the scene with multiple 100-yard efforts each.

We knew the increased competition would mean less dominance in the run game, but the degree in which it has declined is concerning.

Georgia ceded just 46 yards from the two and kept Bigsby under three yards per carry…though they couldn’t stop him from finding the end zone in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs are the nation’s standard on that side of the ball, though. What has Fly War Eagle more concerned is the 27 yards Bigsby collected in Death Valley. While Bo Nix did do the heavy lifting with 44 pass attempts and 12 attempts on the ground, the fact that Bigsby has been a non-factor in SEC play is concerning to say the least.

The Heisman hype has died, but he could still bring his name back to the top of 2023 NFL Draft boards. Arkansas’ defense is not the challenge that even Penn State’s was, so the Tigers’ RBs should be in a position to make a difference once again.
