Why Auburn football may catch a huge break vs. Ole Miss

Catching breaks isn’t typically something you associate with the Auburn football program in recent years.

And that’s despite what Arkansas fans may tell you for the second straight year about the officiating in games between their Hogs and the Tigers.

With the Week 8 bye week coming up and a critical clash with Ole Miss approaching on October 30th, AU may actually get a massive one.

That’s if Matt Corral is still absent after going down hard this past Saturday on Rocky Top against Tennessee:

Lane Kiffin could be playing coy a bit, not letting the worry warts rise in the wake of a razor thin victory against a 3-2 Volunteers team that may not have a winning 2021 record when they face the likes of Alabama, Kentucky, and Georgia in the next three weeks.

While the prevailing narrative from that game was unfortunately the golf balls, mustard bottles, and e-cigarettes’ that rained from the skies at Neyland Stadium this past Saturday night, the real story should be about how Corral collected 426 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns to single-handedly lead the Rebels past the Vols.

Without Matt Corral against Auburn football, Ole Miss becomes the underdog

Respect is starting to slowly trickle down to the Tigers from the talking heads around the country after taking down Arkansas on the road, and their defense proved capable of slowing down a dual-threat that can do damage in KJ Jefferson this past Saturday afternoon.

If Corral is in the lineup, Auburn-Ole Miss should be an intriguing and explosive display by two quarterbacks that are gaining confidence week by week.

Without him, Bo Nix’s improved pocket presence could spell trouble for an underwhelming Ole Miss pass defense and an offense that almost solely relies on #2.
