Auburn football improved in the Top 25 after several teams ranked ahead of them lost in Week 8 play.
The Tigers had a bye week sandwiched between key SEC West matchups against Arkansas, who was conquered on the road, and Ole Miss, who will be visiting the Plains this upcoming weekend in a #10 vs. #18 matchup at Jordan-Hare Stadium under the lights.
As we approach November, College Football Playoff seeding will matter a whole lot more than they have, and AU will have several teams hoping to be in the thick of the conversation on the schedule ahead of them.
Should they get past the Rebels, their first such challenger, they could find themselves ahead of these 5 teams:
Team #1 Auburn football could surpass in Top 25 with Week 9 win: Texas A&M
The Aggies will have an off-week ahead of their November 6th meeting with Auburn at Kyle Field, and that inactivity could have them slipping if ranked teams don’t lose in Week 9 like they have the past several.
Truthfully, A&M’s season has been defined by their upset victory over then-#1 Alabama. Other than that, they have easy wins over New Mexico, Missouri, and South Carolina that don’t define a contender at this point.
Beyond Prairie View A&M, the schedule features Auburn, Ole Miss, and LSU in Coach O’s finale on the Bayou to prove they deserve a New Year’s Six bowl game. But their inactivity could cost them this week, especially if Auburn makes a jump in the rankings and Penn State could take down Ohio State.
