The future of the special teams will be in good hands for Auburn football.
2022 kicker commit Alex McPherson, a 3-star out of Fort Payne, Alabama, launched a 61-yard field goal on Friday night in a 32-7 victory over North Jackson.
The field goal tied the longest in the history of Alabama high school football. It matches a 61-yard AHSAA record field goal from Auburn’s Sage Ledbetter in 2015.
Tiger fans were predictably excited by the play:

Get the ball across midfield and you’re in this literal child’s FG range. Folks, we’ve got another one coming down the Auburn kicking pipeline. https://t.co/0Vt8ikiETg

Even with the Carlson era ending with Anders likely heading to the NFL, it appears that college football’s weakest position traditionally will have a far-above average option for Auburn football in 2022 and beyond with McPherson.
