It wasn’t long ago Suni Lee was stealing all of our hearts at the Olympic Games in Japan. It was an Olympics run that seemed to be destined for Simone Biles, almost as if it was already written in stone that the GOAT would become champion again.
What nobody expected was for Suni to be the show stopper, yet she was in an astonishing way. Lee stepped up when Biles stepped down and made history as the fifth straight all-around gold medalist for Team USA, solidifying Suni as the champion of the World.
Suni Lee has made it no secret how proud she is to be an Auburn Tiger, and Tiger fans could not be more proud to have her. She may be a world-renowned Olympic gold, silver, and bronze medalist but she wants what any new college student wants: her friends, the college atmosphere, and to compete for her team and be able to make money doing it.
Lee is excited about the upcoming gymnastics season and competing with her team while enjoying the less brutal training of being an elite gymnast. She has looked forward to coming to Auburn to be freer and have fun and enjoy all the perks that college has to offer:
"I’m just excited to be in a classroom with other people and get that college experience that I’ve been looking for,” said Suni. “Everybody here is so nice and welcoming. It feels like home."
Now she is gracing our screens as a member of this year’s Dancing With the Stars. Already she is making her mark with her elegance and artistic grace.
As she has gotten better and better each time out on the dance floor, her partner Sasha Farber pitched implementing the balance beam into one of their shows:
"“If we make the finals, I want you to have a cool beam section!!!!That would be so cooool dance/beam.”"
Suni was all for the comment so we could very well see her bring gymnastics to DWTS and get to see her in her natural element. Now could she bring a little bit of Auburn to the big stage?
This week Lee narrowly escaped elimination in DWTS. She and Sasha found themselves in the bottom two but survived. Expect them to really up the ante this coming week.
A balance beam would be an amazing addition to a routine but we would love to see Suni represent that War Eagle pride and add some orange and blue to her costume. Even possibly an eagle to the wardrobe.
There would be nothing quite like Suni Lee leaving a mark of Auburn on the center stage of primetime television. Tune in next week to Dancing With the Stars. Which airs Monday at 8 pm on ABC. Contestants will be dancing to Queen, completely fitting for Suni. The Golden Queen of Auburn.
