Things change fast in the world of recruiting, and Auburn football’s coaching staff is having to make adjustments accordingly. First-year head coach Bryan Harsin managed to sweep a trio of recruits from local Auburn High School, but 2023 linebacker Drayk Bowen chose Notre Dame over the Tigers yesterday.

For several months, Auburn football was the favorite in the recruiting process of 4-star wide receiver Darrius Clemons, whose choices have been narrowed down to Auburn and Oregon. The Tigers were recruiting him hard, and it seemed likely that he would commit to Auburn in December.

But, things change quickly. In the last week, the Ducks lost two of their receiver commits. 4-star Nicholas Anderson flipped to Oklahoma while 4-star Isaiah Sategna flipped to Arkansas. Now Oregon is left with just two receivers on their 2022 roster and head coach Mario Cristobal has made a major push to get Clemons to stay in his home state.

Clemons spent October 30 visiting the Ducks for their matchup against Colorado and will return for the game against Oklahoma State. Though he officially visited the Plains in June and was in Jordan-Hare Stadium for the Tigers’ season opener, the renewed push from the Ducks has shifted the momentum away from Auburn, for now.

However, Auburn football’s class of 2022 commits have not given up on the receiver. Drew Bobo and Damari Alston consistently tweet at Darrius Clemons to persuade him to join them on the Plains:

Darrius Clemons will be an early enrollee, so the recruiting race won’t last much longer. Although the Ducks are suddenly back in the mix for Clemons, Auburn football’s recruits and coaching staff are going to do everything they can to get the 4-star WR to the Plains.
