Auburn football potential bowl opponent #2: Minnesota

Apply many of the same caveats from Wisconsin here for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Auburn football’s opponent in January of 2020 in that year’s Outback Bowl.

Any of these bloomin’ onion redemption games would be each be a fitting way to begin the new year for a Tigers team that is limping down the stretch here in November. The Gophers have an outside shot of making a run at the title game with a very winnable matchup against Indiana next and Paul Bunyan’s Axe on the line against the Badgers at home to close out the season.

If they fall short, a rematch from what would be two years ago with AU–a game they won 31-24–would be waiting in the wings.

Auburn football potential bowl opponent #3: Penn State

Speaking of rematches, wouldn’t it be something for Auburn’s Week 3 opponent, Penn State, to be named their opponent for bowl season? That would set up a rubber match between the two teams on the Plains in 2022 during next season’s Week 3.

Like Wisconsin and Minnesota, Penn State could be in play for the Citrus Bowl, Outback Bowl, or Gator Bowl, which each invite teams from the Big Ten.

This matchup would give us a chance to see what TJ Finley or even Dematrius Davis could do after Bo Nix failed to get the job done (21/37, 185 passing yards, no TDs) up in Happy Valley this season.
