Auburn football potential transfer #2: TJ Finley

When TJ Finley made the decision to leave Ed Orgeron’s LSU Tigers, winners of the National Championship the year prior, he did so with a starting job in mind.

Choosing the first-year head coach Bryan Harsin’s Auburn Tigers seemed like a good idea to accomplish just that considering the struggles Bo Nix faced in his sophomore season in 2020.

Then, Nix decided to be a hero on the road in Baton Rouge against Finley’s former team and all but solidified his role as the starter for the rest of the season. And he was, until an ankle injury in the second half of the Mississippi State meltdown in Week 11.

Finley failed to make a statement that he should be the starter this past Saturday in Columbia against the Gamecocks, though, completing 17/32 passes and fumbling the ball for the second week in a row on a snap.

Next season, with Nix back, Finley would be right back to being QB2, with the possibility of being surpassed by Holden Geriner on the depth chart if he stayed in Auburn.

Perhaps Finley could look to find a new home once more, with two seasons of SEC experience with two different SEC pillar programs under his belt. It might be his best bet to find what he couldn’t on the Plains.
