Auburn football fans can finally stop worrying about Bryan Harsin jumping ship after a single .500 season on the Plains.

After rumors linked Harsin to his native Pacific Northwest, the Washington Huskies went with a different option, silencing the Harsin-UW rumors once and for all with the hiring of Fresno State’s Kalen DeBoer as its next head coach.

DeBoer led the Bulldogs to a 9-3 season that saw Fresno State ranked during several points of the 2021 season.

Tiger fans were elated at the news, mixing in some “I-told-you-so’s” in the process:

Harsin’s Auburn football tenure has seen some tough times in the last month, with three losses being of the blown lead variety of two scores or more, and one being a wire-to-wire beatdown at the hands of Texas A&M.

That said, this team is a few plays each game from winning eight, nine, or even ten games. Obviously, that same logic would put Nebraska in the B1G Championship game on the doorstep of the CFP, but the point is that there were plenty of glimmers of hope in a year where a 6-6 record doesn’t begin to tell the whole story.

The DeBoer hire seemingly puts to rest the idea that Harsin could bolt after just a season in Auburn. Which is good for a fanbase that has gone through it…and then some…here in 2021.
