Auburn football WR transfer portal target #1: Cam Johnson, Vanderbilt
First up, we have Vanderbilt’s Cam Johnson. Johnson is a grad transfer that would be immediately eligible to play in 2022, and his services would surely be welcomed on the Plains after the inconsistency of the receiving core this season.
Johnson didn’t lead the Commodores in most receiving categories this past season, finishing third in receptions (34) and receiving yards (327), though he did tie Will Sheppard with four hauls in the end zone.
He had at least one catch in every game this season, though Mississippi State and Kentucky kept him to under 10 yards. That sort of consistency–whether it features fireworks every outing or not–would be appreciated given the stone hands displayed particularly during the Georgia game.
Johnson was a highly sought after 4-star recruit out of Brentwood Academy Class of 2017, and the Tigers (under then-HC Gus Malzahn) were originally in on him during his initial recruitment period. They didn’t get a chance to offer him, just like Alabama, Tennessee, and Ole Miss, before he ended up signing with Vanderbilt, but no one is blaming him for leaving Nashville after 11 wins in four years.
