Auburn football fans want their QB situation to be settled, just as it has been the past three seasons on the Plains.
That, of course, would mean Bo Nix returning for his fourth year with the Tigers after an up-down-up again freshman, sophomore, and junior year narrative.
Unfortunately, much of the unexplainable and unproductive hate sent Nix’s way has him considering transferring from the program, one he was proud to join after growing up in the shadow of his Tiger QB father, Patrick.
If Nix does bolt, Adrian Martinez could be an option to replace him, according to AthlonSports’ Steven Lassan’s piece exploring 15 potential transfer destinations for the outbound Nebraska QB transfer:
"There’s some uncertainty about Bo Nix’s future with the program. If he leaves, coach Bryan Harsin will have to add more depth to the quarterback room."
The Tigers were the only SEC team listed, though interestingly enough former Auburn football head coach Gus Malzahn’s UCF Knights were named as a potential transfer spot with Dillon Gabriel hitting the transfer portal himself.
Now, does Fly War Eagle actually want Martinez under center on the Plains?
I’ll let co-expert Mary Kate Hughes’ piece exploring this very topic speak for the whole lot of us here:
"With so much talent already on the roster, Bryan Harsin and the coaching staff should put the effort into developing the guys they have instead of looking to the portal for a quick fix. Adding Martinez to the roster for just one year could mean that Auburn football loses Dee Davis or Holden Geriner, and those guys are vital for the Tigers’ success in the coming years."
The grad transfer has a big arm and will land a starting role somewhere, but Martinez is not worth mortgaging the future for. Holden Geriner could be the next big thing for Auburn, and we still haven’t seen Dematrius Davis take a snap (thanks Mike Bobo).
Thanks but no thanks, and we wish Martinez the best wherever he lands.
