Auburn football fans target Aaron Brule as preferred Zakoby McClain replacement
With all of the departing transfers, both speculated and official, via the transfer portal so soon after the end of the regular season this past Saturday, Auburn football fans are getting antsy.
Defensive back Ladarius Tennison, running back Shaun Shivers, wide receiver Elijah Canion, edge defender Caleb Johnson, and offensive lineman Tashawn Manning have all entered their names into the portal.
The portal has taketh, but it has yet to giveth.
Tiger fans have been tweeting plenty at Darren Uscher underneath many announcements of transfer portal entries, and with the news of Mississippi State losing senior Aaron Brule, the Auburn family struck:
Brule had his best season during the 2020 COVID-19 stricken season, which saw Mississippi State go 4-7. He amassed 74 total tackles, eight TFL, and four sacks. This season, his tackle total was at 53, though he again had eight TFL and three sacks. Throughout his four-year career in Starkville, he had 139 tackles, 17.5 TFL, 55 solo, and eight sacks.
Following the announcement, many believe the Metairie, LA native may seek a return home with the LSU Tigers, who just hired Brian Kelly to replace Ed Orgeron as the new head coach.
2021 #5 overall NFL Draft pick and LSU alum Ja’Marr Chase seemingly commented on it with the use of an emoji while quote tweeting the news:
Brule received strong interest from Georgia as well during his initial recruitment, even committing to UGA before decommitting months later. One would think he’d want to reconsider that decision with the Bulldogs looking like the team to beat in the NCAA this year and in the years to come.
Let’s hope he considers the underdogs too, though, because he’d be a great leader for Auburn football on the defensive end. He’d also be a perfect weakside LB replacement for likely NFL-bound senior Zakoby McClain.
