Auburn football: 2 recruits that hit transfer portal today Tigers should pursue
Auburn football transfer portal target #2: WR Jacob Copeland, Florida
Dan Mullen’s collapse in Gainesville this past season was the stuff of legend. Ceding 52 points to Samford of the FCS? Losing by more than three touchdowns to South Carolina? Blowing a fourth quarter lead and losing to Mizzou in overtime?
It was not the Gators’ year by any stretch, and former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn can clinch a losing season for UF during the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa.
With all of the losing down in ‘The Swamp’, players are skipping town at an accelerated rate, even if Mullen’s replacement, outbound Louisiana-Lafayette head coach Billy Napier, is highly respected and could lead the Gators out of these dark ages.
One such player is WR Jacob Copeland, the Gators’ receiving leader in 2021. Copeland was a leader across every category, including receptions (39), yards per reception (15.6), receiving yards (607), and touchdowns (four).
Losing the former 4-star recruit is a huge blow to Napier’s first roster, but Florida’s loss could be the Plains’ gain. Auburn was one of the many schools in on Copeland during his initial recruitment, and are losing Demetris Robertson and potentially fellow senior Shedrick Jackson this winter.
The fit is there for Copeland, who could come in and compete for the WR1 role in the Tigers offense.
