Not so fast, Auburn football (and Ole Miss) fans.

Bo Nix was heavily rumored to be headed to Oxford to join Lane Kiffin and the Rebels, and there were even rumors that his father Patrick would be hired for the support staff.

Well, those can’t be true based on Phillip Marshall’s latest intel surrounding the former 5-star dual-threat QB’s next destination.

According to Marshall, transferring within the SEC or taking the proverbial step down to the Group of Five is not an option for Nix in the transfer portal:

"I won’t say never because things can change, but based on what I and others are hearing, former Auburn quarterback Bo Nix is not going to transfer to Ole Miss or to any other program that is scheduled to play Auburn. Nix said earlier in the week that he will not transfer down from the Power 5, so that eliminates Central Florida as well."

So, for those keeping score at home, that means that Kiffin and co. are out, as is Gus Malzahn, who won’t land the level of Tiger transfers he used to coach that he did following his dismissal from AU in late 2020/early 2021.

It also means ideal landing spot, Cincinnati, is out, though the College Football Playoff’s #4 seed should transcend the Group of Five label that seems to be a non-starter for Nix’s next landing spot.

So where does that leave the Pinson, Alabama product moving forward? Well, the Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, and ACC are all clearly still in contention, meaning Auburn football fans likely won’t see Nix again unless he chooses Penn State, which is not even on anyone’s radar at the moment.

Interesting situations exist in Indiana and Oregon, with the former landing several of his Tiger teammates and the latter hiring his offensive coordinator in his successful 2019 freshman season.
