Casey Thompson has Auburn football as a top transfer portal landing spot
Auburn football remains a relevant program on every top QB in the nation’s radar this offseason as another top name is considering the Tigers as a transfer portal landing spot.
Former Texas QB Casey Thompson, who entered the transfer portal on December 17th, reportedly has AU in his narrowed-down list of schools he is eyeing.
This comes after Auburn lost their own starting signal-caller, Bo Nix, on December 19th when he transferred to Oregon.
The Athletic’s Nebraska beat reporter, Mitch Sherman, had the full list from Thompson’s father, Charles, a former Oklahoma QB himself:
Several Auburn football beat reporters added their two cents in both serious and not-so-serious fashions:
For what it’s worth, Hook ‘Em Headlines’ Andrew Miller sees plenty of reasons for why Thompson would be interested in Nebraska, who Miller noted had traction with Thompson last week:
"(Nebraska) Head coach Scott Frost offered Thompson during his recruitment out of high school when he was leading the way for the UCF Knights a few years back. The connection is there with Frost, and there is certainly some appeal for Thompson to play for new Nebraska offensive coordinator Mark Whipple after what he did with breakthrough signal-caller Kenny Pickett with the Pitt Panthers this season."
Zach Calzada appears to be the likeliest transfer portal option for Auburn football
We want so badly for Oklahoma transfer Caleb Williams to buck conventional wisdom and choose the Plains as his next home.
Realistically, though, Zach Calzada is the likeliest transfer option with Thompson seemingly on a collision course to Lincoln. Some Tiger fans have shared plenty of displeasure with that idea on Twitter, but he’s undoubtedly an upgrade over TJ Finley at the barest of minimums.
