After head coach Bryan Harsin’s first year at the helm of Auburn football ended in the Tigers’ first losing season since 2012, the coaching staff is not messing around when it comes to recruiting. Although we are currently in the midst of a recruiting dead period, mid-year transfers eligible to enroll in the spring semester are allowed to visit programs from January 5-11.

Auburn football kicked things off by playing host to a pair of important transfers, former Texas A&M quarterback Zach Calzada and former Louisiana offensive lineman O’Cyrus Torrence, but more transfers are expected to arrive on the Plains in the coming weeks.

One of the most important position groups the Tigers are focusing on in the transfer portal is offensive linemen, and two more are expected to be on campus in addition to O’Cyrus Torrence, as well as a defensive back who already has ties to Auburn football.

Auburn football Expected Visitor #1: DJ James

After securing the commitment of Oregon defensive lineman Jayson Jones, an Alabama native that committed to the Ducks in 2020, the Tigers immediately turned their attention to another Oregon transfer with Auburn ties in cornerback DJ James.

James earned a starting job with the Ducks and recorded 46 tackles, two interceptions, and two pass breakups this past season. Now, after entering the transfer portal, he’s interested in reuniting with former teammate and current Auburn Tiger Jayson Jones.

The third-year sophomore would be a welcome addition to Auburn football’s 2022 defense after losing Roger McCreary, Smoke Monday, and Zakoby McClain to the NFL Draft.
