With Nick Eason having taken his talents to northwest South Carolina to join his alma mater Clemson as their DL coach, Auburn football is looking to fill that void with a current NFL DL coach.
After naming Seattle Seahawks coach Austin Davis the new offensive coordinator, the Tigers are now looking to add Arizona Cardinals DL coach Brentson Buckner.
Buckner, coincidentally, played at Clemson and ended up being drafted in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft.
Tiger fans are on board with the potential hiring of Buckner:
Wait so…he turned down an offer from Clemson, then Clemson hired our coach, and now we’re pursuing him?

Chess, not checkers. https://t.co/l2AbG4zyiI
We could, potentially, have the coaches of NFL greats Russel Wilson and JJ Watt on our staff next year. https://t.co/6L5ovRBwER

Would be a home run https://t.co/qtS2SIshjY

Buckner was born in Columbus, Georgia, and could be a major recruiting tool in landing more talent from the Peach State. Given Bryan Harsin’s lack of experience in recruiting in the southeast, Buckner would be an ace in the hole, especially for DL prospects.
Nothing is official, but the early returns from the Auburn family show that Buckner would be a welcomed addition to the Plains, especially in the wake of Eason recently choosing Clemson over Auburn football.
Should Clemson ever make the jump to the big leagues (the SEC), this coaching recruitment battle would help lay the foundation for a future rivalry.
