After spending much time combing through the NCAA transfer portal looking for a new quarterback, Auburn football has pulled former Texas A&M Aggie Zach Calzada to the Plains. The news was broken by newly-hired offensive coordinator Austin Davis.

Calzada played in 12 games for the Aggies in 2021 after replacing an injured Haynes King as QB1 and threw for 2,185 yards and 17 touchdowns. He entered the transfer portal at the end of the season and has decided he will spend 2022 in orange and blue.

The quarterback’s commitment to head coach Bryan Harsin’s program comes in the wake of his official campus visit, which took place on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Auburn football will now have four scholarship quarterbacks heading into next season with TJ Finley, redshirt freshman Dematrius Davis, and incoming 4-star signee Holden Geriner, but Christian Clemente reports on Twitter that the Tigers’ hunt for QBs may not be over just yet:

While things are looking better for the Tigers in terms of QB depth, they’ll still be working with a struggling starter in TJ Finley and two young quarterbacks with no collegiate experience in Davis and Geriner, so it’s possible that OC and QB Coach Austin Davis is looking to heat up the quarterback competition even more by adding another from the portal.

Auburn football fans everywhere have their fingers crossed that the staff will somehow get Oklahoma transfer QB Caleb Williams to the Plains, but until that happens everyone will have to be satisfied with the newest Tiger, Zach Calzada.
