Auburn football commit Caden Story gives recruitment update
Though Auburn football had a very successful early signing day and now has 18 signees on the 2022 roster, one of the Tigers’ verbal commits decided to wait until National Signing Day in February. Caden Story, a 4-star defensive lineman from Lanett, Alabama, has been committed to head coach Bryan Harsin’s program since August but did not choose to sign in December.
Story and his father insisted that the DL remains locked in with Auburn football but did not want to rush into an early decision. However, Story’s recruitment still appears to be wide open and he is actively talking with other schools, including Tennessee, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and Florida.
The Gators are the team to keep an eye on as Harsin and the staff try to hold on to Story’s commitment until February. He’s been keeping in touch with new head coach Billy Napier and learning more about the program, but has kept his commitment to the Tigers intact so far.
Could Story end up following former Auburn defensive line coach Nick Eason to Clemson? Eason was listed as Story’s primary recruiter, but according to 247Sports, Story chose the Tigers for the program, not his position coach:
"“I’m still going to look into Auburn,” Story said. “I’m still committed to Auburn right now. I didn’t sign to a coach I will sign to a school. I have to see how things turn out, see how things go."
Right now, Caden Story insists that he will continue his collegiate career with Auburn football, and he has put his trust in the vision of Coach Harsin:
"“It’s Auburn, Auburn is home,” Story said. “Auburn feels like the place I need to be. Auburn is home.“Coach Harsin has a plan for Auburn and I feel like that plan is going to start working in the next few years,” Story said. “You just have to give him a chance. He’s in different conference now, He’s in the SEC now and the plan he has I really think is going to work in Auburn’s favor.”"
National Signing Day 2022 is not until Wednesday, February 2, so until then the Tigers will have to work hard to hang on to the 4-star defensive lineman.
