Auburn football has had its fair share of transfer portal losses amidst an offseason of exciting returns. Eku Leota, Colby Wooden, Derick Hall, John Samuel Shenker, Shedrick Jackson, Nick Brahms, Austin Troxell, and Owen Pappoe (to name a few) have all announced their intentions to return to the Plains for one more season, but there’s been a few notable departures that should reshape the locker-room moving forward.
Undoubtedly the most impactful loss outside of Bo Nix on the offensive end will be Kobe Hudson, who left the WR room pretty barren given the loss of both Demetris Robertson and Elijah Canion (also to the portal).
Hudson was the team’s most effective red-zone target no matter who was under center, with his fourth-quarter Birmingham Bowl TD reception from TJ Finley serving as an epic final last play in orange and blue for the Pine Mountain, Georgia product.
Now, though the QB he’ll be receiving throws from is still unclear–Ole Miss transfer John Rhys Plumlee and Mikey Keene figure to be the two likeliest options if the Knights don’t get another arm from the transfer portal–he’ll be back with the coach that recruited him to Auburn football in the first place.
That’s right, Gus Malzahn and UCF have poached another player from the Plains.
Tiger fans collectively had a varied reaction to Hudson’s announcement:
Let’s hope the Auburn family has a Travis Williams-type relationship with the former Tiger-turned-Knight Hudson and doesn’t instead have another Big Kat Bryant situation on their hands…
