When it comes to quarterbacks in the SEC, Braden Gall thinks very little of Auburn football and the Tigers’ spot on the signal-caller totem pole.

The ESPN host sees TJ Finley as the 13th best QB in the SEC and ranked him dead last out of the seven presumed starting gunslingers for the upcoming 2022 season.

Bryce Young was named #1, followed by Arkansas’ KJ Jefferson, Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker, Mississippi State’s Will Rogers, and…Florida’s Anthony Richardson to round out Gall’s top five.

Okay then.

The knocks on Finley are certainly fair when juxtaposed with the Tigers’ post-Halloween record and the passing mistakes that cost Auburn football in key moments late in both the Birmingham Bowl, Iron Bowl, and even the South Carolina game before that in 2021.

But he may not even be the Tigers’ representative from the Tigers backfield given the five-way battle set to take place this spring for the QB1 role.

Zach Calzada is arguably the most accomplished man in the QB room given his successes with Texas A&M in 2021. Collegiately at least. Robby Ashford has planted his flag in the Yellowhammer State the most from his time at Hoover High School winning state championships as the leader of the Bucs.

If you ask Jake ‘Jboy’ Crain, we haven’t even touched on the most talented QB on the Plains…

Either way, the ranking may be premature. Wearing some rose-colored glasses for a second here, perhaps Gall should wait until at least A-Day to determine who the AU QB1 will be, and where he stacks up against the rest of the conference’s elite arms.
