Another week of winter workouts has come and gone for Auburn football, and that means it is time to recognize the Iron Men of the Week.

Each week during the offseason ahead of spring practice, Auburn football heads to Twitter to recognize one defensive player and one offensive player for their hard work in the weight room and their determination to raise the level of success for the program.

Last week’s Iron Men of the Week were two key players from Auburn’s 2021 roster in EDGE Eku Leota and tight end Luke Deal.

The Iron Men of Week Five are two returning members of the Tigers’ roster. On the offensive side of the ball, running back Tank Bigsby was honored, while recognition went to defensive tackle Zykeivous Walker on the defensive side of the ball.

After some controversy following the 2021 Iron Bowl, it seemed possible that Tank Bigsby would be transferring out of the program, but it was confirmed in mid-December that the running back would return for a third season on the Plains. Bigsby finished off the season with 1,099 rushing yards on 223 carries with 10 touchdowns in addition to 24 receptions for 184 yards.

Zykeivous Walker saw game action in nine of Auburn football’s 13 games in 2021 as a sophomore defensive tackle. He recorded three solo tackles, three assisted tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and one pass breakup on the season.

Following defensive line coach Nick Eason’s departure from Auburn football to his alma mater Clemson, the Tigers lost six defensive linemen to the transfer portal, meaning Walker has the chance to earn a bigger role on the field this fall. As a top-100 recruit out of high school, Walker’s potential will be important in restructuring the d-line for 2022.
