Fans react to Auburn women’s basketball’s third Top-25 win
The 2021-22 season for Auburn women’s basketball has been a bit of a roller coaster ride, but with a 65-60 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs this weekend, things are looking up. In her inaugural season on the Plains, head coach Johnnie Harris is clearly paving the way for a successful program in the years to come.
Auburn women’s basketball’s first Top-25 win came early in the season as the Tigers picked off #18 Georgia Tech on the road 59-51. Then, the #4 Lady Volunteers made a trip to the Plains and the Tigers battled for a big home win 71-61.
Today’s victory over #21 Georgia marked the third win over a Top-25 team this season, the most ranked wins in a season for Auburn Women’s basketball since 2009-10 when the Tigers also knocked off three ranked teams.
The Tigers were down eight points in the fourth quarter but rallied back to take the lead and keep the Bulldogs scoreless for the last seven minutes of the game. Coach Harris praised her team for their defense and grit throughout the game, per AuburnTigers.com:
"“We wanted to put more pressure on the ball earlier. We were letting them get straight-line passes. I challenged them to pressure the ball and get over those screens. We just had to be tougher, and I felt like we were tougher in the fourth quarter.”"
Fans were ecstatic for the Auburn women’s basketball team, and showed their support for Johnnie Harris’ first squad on Twitter following their big win:
The Tigers’ final home game will be this Thursday in Auburn Arena against the Ole Miss Rebels at 7 p.m.
