Auburn baseball came away from the State Farm College Showdown in Arlington, Texas with a winning record and a two-game win streak.
Not a bad first weekend for the diamond Tigers by any stretch, huh?
The 2022 season did start off on a mildly sour note with the bats (besides Sonny DiChiara’s anyway) mostly dormant and the bullpen struggling to keep the Oklahoma lineup quiet in the seventh and eighth innings.
Luckily, order was restored when Cole Foster drove in Bryson Ware with a two-out double in the second inning for the first run of the year against the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday. Ultimately, two runs were what it took to Wreck Tech, well, at least best Tech, 2-1, for their first win of the young season.
Sunday’s game broke from the early season mold with the Tigers routing the Kansas State Wildcats 12-1 on a most bloody Sunday for Manhattanites in the Sunflower State. Blake Rambusch, Ryan Dyal, Brayton Brown each had an RBI hat trick, and starting pitcher Trace Bright gave up just two hits in five innings while fanning five batters in the process.
Now, Plainsman Park opens its doors to COVID-19 restriction-less Auburn baseball crowd for the first time since 2020.
Fly War Eagle has the odds for the matchup while laying down a prediction:
Auburn baseball vs Troy Odds: Line, Spread, Over/Under
Auburn comes into this one as a -225 favorite. Troy sits as a +175 underdog as the visitors. The over/under for the game is set at 11.5. You could catch the action on the ESPN+ app at 5pm central.
Auburn vs Troy prediction
Troy comes into this one riding the high of a four-game sweep over Holy Cross of the Patriot League. Only the opening game of the season saw the Crusaders compete admirably against the Trojans, with scores of 23-2, 11-3, and 8-1 finishing out the sweep.
Auburn, on the other hand, is streaking themselves, having knocked off two Big-12 opponents in the Lone Star State.
I’m going with the total runs over 11.5 for the Wednesday late afternoon clash, the first of two matchups between the two Yellowhammer State adversaries this season.
