It’s a little upsetting to think that this current 2021-22 Auburn basketball team will play together in this form just one last time after tonight.

Jabari Smith will be an NBA lottery selection, perhaps being taken with the #1 pick overall. SEC Player of the Year honors may precede that.

Then again, those may go to Walker Kessler. The UNC transfer has masterfully protected the rim in an oftentimes violent way throughout this campaign and has the raw counting stats (12 points, eight rebounds, 4.6 blocks) to get NBA looks himself. Kessler may be the most improved player in the country, and could just steal votes from Smith due to his on-the-block dominance.

There’s been some struggles from the rest of the group for sure. Wendell Green Jr. has had a few regrettable late-game blunders that have left fans forgetting the brilliance that preceded it. Allen Flanigan and Devan Cambridge are providing minimal shooting on the wing, and the depth the Tigers were once lauded for is seeing less guys see the floor as SEC play trudges on.

Tonight, with the Neville Arena letters already out in front of the arena FKA the Auburn Arena–though technically still called that until March 4th–Ole Miss comes to town for the second matchup of the season between these two teams.

Fly War Eagle has the Odds and TV Channel for the matchup while laying down a prediction:

Last time these two teams played, Bruce Pearl’s team came back to cover against Kermit Davis’ team at The Pavilion.

We’ll take another spread cover, a 16-point spread cover this time around, against a Rebs squad that has dropped four of its last five games.
