Auburn football’s newest position coach Ike Hilliard is already hitting the recruiting trail hard after being announced as the wide receivers coach just yesterday. Formerly with the Steelers in the NFL, Hilliard has worked with an incredible list of receivers including Brandon Marshall, Juju Smith-Schuster, and DeSean Jackson, among others.

Now, Hilliard is setting his eyes on the college football world and will attempt to strengthen one of Auburn football’s position groups that is in most need of some help. The former All-American and SEC veteran will have his work cut out for him, but he’s starting things off strong.

Just this morning, JUCO WR Malik Benson took to Twitter to announce he earned an offer from Auburn football to add to his growing list of offers:

Benson comes from Hutchinson Community College in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, the same program that delivered safety Marquise Gilbert to the Tigers on Early National Signing Day.

In 11 games this season, Benson recorded 43 receptions for 1,229 and 11 touchdowns, with his longest reception being a whopping 87 yards. Benson averaged over 100 receiving yards per game for the Blue Dragons.

In the Salt City Bowl where Hutchinson played Hinds Community College, Benson earned most valuable offensive player after logging seven catches for 198 yards and two touchdowns.

The wide receiver would be a member of Auburn football’s recruiting class of 2023, and already has offers from over ten major programs including Georgia, Houston, Miami, and Kansas State. However, with his teammate Gilbert already on the Tigers’ squad, Auburn is likely in a good spot to pick up the talented wideout.

With many of last year’s wide receivers parting ways with Auburn football, a talented receiver like Malik Benson would go a long way for the Tigers and have a huge impact on the offensive side of the ball.
