Auburn baseball has had a few bumps early on in the 2022 season, but overall, they’re trending positively after a somewhat disappointing 2021 campaign considering the talent on that team.
This year’s squad is heavy on transfer talent, and Sonny DiChiara is standing out early as one of the consistent bats in the lineup. Averaging a home run every other game at this point, the 1B transfer from Samford has been tearing it up to the tune of a >.500 batting average.
So far, the Tigers have had runs of high-scoring games followed by low-scoring affairs. Their first weekend at the State Farm College Baseball Showdown in Arlington, Texas saw two under hits before a 12-1 blowout win over Kansas State.
They followed that up with a 13-1 rout of Troy before a Friday-Saturday swing of unders only in their opening home series against Yale. Then, they teamed up with Alabama State, their foes from right down I85 south in Montgomery, to put up 20 runs in a 13-7 AU win.
The second leg of a two-night Yellowhammer State swing happens tonight with UAB in town. Currently at 6-1, the Blazers have played both Northwestern and Southeastern Louisiana. UAB swept Northwestern before dropping the opener to the Lions in Hammond, LA before reeling off the next two.
