Unfortunately, it was a one-and-done for Auburn women’s basketball in the 2022 SEC tournament, but fans still see a bright future ahead after Johnnie Harris’ first season on the Plains.

The Tigers faced off against the Crimson Tide in the first round of the tournament, but terrible free throw shooting and poor rebounding were the ultimate downfalls of Coach Harris’ inaugural team. Making only half of their 28 free throws throughout the game, the Tigers were outscored in the fourth quarter despite their aggressive defense and forced turnovers for the Tide.

Despite their early elimination in the SEC tourney, it’s clear that Auburn women’s basketball is trending upward and has a bright future ahead. The Tigers finished up their season with a 10-18 record and won victories over three ranked teams for the first time since the 2009-2010 season.

Fans spoke out in support of the womens’ program on Twitter following the tough loss, and urged the Tigers to keep pushing to get better:

While it certainly wasn’t the way Auburn women’s basketball was hoping to end their season, it’s clear that Coach Johnnie Harris is taking this program in the right direction and building towards success in the coming years.
