Auburn football is short on depth in certain areas of their offense at the moment. Multiple areas depending on who you ask.

Opposing fanbases believe that the Tigers have five names thrown in the hat for the QB1 job but no one to actually lead them to any improvements over what was a tough 2021 season.

The offensive line is once again an issue as well. Auburn lacks the sort of blue-chip 5-star prospects in the trenches that Alabama and Georgia have been winning National Championships on the backs of.

Above all else, though, are the issues in the receiving core. AU is losing all of their top receivers outside of Shedrick Jackson, with Kobe Hudson and Ja’Varrius Johnson taking to the transfer portal and Demetrius Robertson having no eligibility left after playing as a super senior.

AL.com’s Tom Green pointed out that the WR room depth problems could be solved via the transfer portal:

"(Shedrick Jackson), coming off a career season in 2021, headlines a rather unproven group that features just six scholarship players on roster this spring. Two more are set to arrive by fall, and Auburn is still expected to pursue another experienced piece through the post-spring transfer market."

But who might the team target this late in the transfer period with spring practice right around the corner?

Auburn football should target Mississippi State transfer Theodore Knox in transfer portal

Currently, the Tigers have the least experience in the receiving corps at the WRH position, with sophomore to be Tar’Varish Dawson and incoming freshman Jay Fair making up the team’s current depth.

Theodore Knox out of Mississippi State brings speed, and explosiveness in spades and has the pedigree to star for the Tigers out of the slot. He didn’t see action for the Bulldogs last season but was the #3 recruit in their entire 2021 class.

Options aren’t abundant in the transfer portal right now, but Knox fits the team’s needs to a tee and could make an impact off the bat in a WR room that could use an unsung hero in 2022…and in general someone who could make big plays besides Shedrick Jackson.
