Auburn football’s spring practice is scheduled to kick off today, and with it comes a long line of visitors that will be headed to the Plains to get a closer look at the Tigers’ program and relatively new coaching staff.
One prospect that has become a major priority for the Tigers is 4-star running back Jeremiah Cobb of Montgomery Catholic from down the road in Montgomery, AL. Listed as the #300 overall prospect and the #20 running back in the recruiting class of 2023 and the #20 prospect out of the state of Alabama.
As a junior during the 2021-22 season, Cobb recorded 2,163 yards on 195 carries for 30 touchdowns, averaging 154.5 yards per game, via Max Preps. In his high school career, he totals 467 carries for 4,551 yards and 52 touchdowns with 23 100+ yard games.
Auburn football extended an offer to the in-state talent back in February, and since then the staff has been frequently communicating with Cobb.
Auburn Undercover reports that there is a strong line of communication between the offensive staff and the running back, but naturally, he has grown closest to his would-be position coach Cadillac Williams:
"“I’m definitely closest with Coach Cadillac (at Auburn),” Cobb said. “He says he loves my film and he tells me to keep doing what I’m doing. He tells me Auburn is a special place and it would be a great fit for me.”"
Cobb has made a trip to the Plains once already for the 2021 Iron Bowl, and is now planning a return trip to get another look at Auburn football this Friday, per Auburn Undercover:
"“I’m going Friday,” he said. “I’m going to watch practice. I really just want to get closer with the coaching staff and see how they work together.”"
With no firm timeline for when Cobb will make a final decision, the Tigers are in a good position with the in-state running back.
