This Auburn basketball sibling could be transfer portal target
Auburn basketball fans are most certainly not satisfied with the results of the 2021-22 season given the unsatisfactory ending in both conference tournament play and during the Big Dance itself.
Bowing out after one game in the SEC Tournament was only going to be forgiven if there was to be a deep run that followed during the March Madness bracket.
Unfortunately, a Round of 32 loss to Miami now leaves the program without two of its top recruits and without a satisfactory memory following the most successful regular season in history both on the court and in the Twitter replies of opposing teams.
The deep fried memeing and deafening ‘Jungle’ screaming across the south all season only leading to a 1-2 postseason record leaves plenty to be desired moving forward, and luckily, Bruce Pearl doesn’t appear set to rest on his laurels. He has his eyes set squarely on three recently decommitted LSU recruits: five-star big man Yohan Traore, five-star power forward Julian Phillips, and five-star guard Marvel Allen.
Could he have a backup plan in the form of a sibling to one of his guys that has hit the transfer portal?
Auburn basketball G Devan Cambridge’s little brother, Desmond Cambridge, is in the transfer portal.
When it comes to Auburn hoops, it’s all about keeping it in the family. Let’s not forget Bruce Pearl has his son Steven on his coaching staff and assistant coach Wes Flanigan has his son Allen on the team too.
If Devan Cambridge doesn’t look to take to the transfer portal himself after ceding minutes to Flanigan after his return from an Achilles injury, maybe his brother Desmond from Nevada could add scoring to a backcourt that struggled to make shots in postseason play.
The older Cambridge has never scored under 15.7 points per game in his four seasons split between the Wolf Pack and Brown and upped his 3-point shooting to 37% in 2021-22.
Time will tell what route Pearl takes to fill out a roster set to lose two players (Jabari Smith, Walker Kessler) to the NBA Draft and another (Preston Cook) to graduation. But Devan Cambridge has a referral he knows well that could work with the current roster.
