Robby Ashford could solidify his role as Auburn football QB2

The QB with the highest playmaking ceiling in the Tigers QB room is undoubtedly the speedy dual-threat gunslinger Robby Ashford.

As we often mention around these parts, Ashford has the home-state pull as a former state champion at Hoover in the Birmingham area. What’s also starting to be mentioned here is how Ashford may not fit the Bryan Harsin QB mold.

It’s not a death sentence for Ashford, though. Zach Calzada’s shoulder injury keeping him out of full participation in spring practice is his saving grace.

Perform well enough in spurts with the second-team, and Ashford could overcome the stigma that his style doesn’t fit the HC he chose to play for.

Holden Geriner does fit the mold of a Bryan Harsin QB and could surprise as a freshman

Holden Geriner didn’t have the greatest spring debut, but he’s so green in orange and blue that you may well have a case chalking that up to nerves.

Geriner is more of the kind of QB that Bryan Harsin is looking for, and, despite his college football infancy, could be a dark horse contender to stealing the QB2 role himself given Calzada’s absence.

Come to think of it, maybe it’s time we stop associating the ‘dark horse‘ tag with the Auburn QB room.
