Auburn football recruiting: 3 urgent positions of need for Tigers
Auburn football recruiting position of need #3: WR
The Auburn receiving core is one that was ravaged by the offseason process after an injury-forced QB switch saw the passing numbers go down almost universally wreck the end of the 2021 season.
Demetris Robertson’s loss hurts, but perhaps not quite as much as the ‘natural receiver’ Kobe Hudson. The UCF defection was the leading pass-catcher and had the lone TD in regulation during the All-Time Iron Bowl this past November at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Both will be missed, and if not for the returns of Shedrick Jackson, Ja’Varrius Johnson, and TE John Samuel Shenker…
*shutters*
Luckily, Bryan Harsin’s staff, including new WR coach Ike Hilliard, recognizes the on-paper shortcomings.
Per an earlier report from AL.com, there will be a focus on using the transfer portal to beef up the receiving core:
"The group is still relatively short on depth this spring, and that much has been apparent during practice viewing periods this week. More help is on the way in the offseason, with 2022 signees Omari Kelly and Camden Brown set to join the fold—plus the potential for a post-spring transfer addition"
Arkansas State WR transfer Corey Rucker could be the key addition the WR room could use to build even more momentum this spring following quite the nuclear winter.
