Auburn football transfer portal: WVU EDGE a major target
With only three scholarship players on Auburn football’s roster at the edge position, the Tigers are undoubtedly looking to add depth to the position before the fall of 2022. Auburn lost two of its pass rushers following the 2021 season in T.D. Moultry, who graduated and declared for the NFL Draft, and Romello Height, who transferred to USC.
The Tigers return two of their best edges in Derick Hall and Eku Leota, who combined for 16 sacks last season, in addition to redshirt freshman Dylan Brooks. However, Auburn football signed no edges from the recruiting class of 2022 and will be looking to the transfer portal to beef up the position.
Just one day after announcing his decision to enter the transfer portal from West Virginia, Akheem Mesidor has emerged as a major target for the Tigers and has already received an offer from the coaching staff.
According to Auburn Live, Mesidor has already received offers from both Tennessee and USC, and with Mesidor’s interest in visiting Penn State, an offer is likely on the way from the Nittany Lions. Auburn Live also reports that the defensive lineman’s offer list is bound to grow and the Tigers are hoping to get in early:
"There are still some big schools with a need at the DL position. Being that Mesidor was successful playing at EDGE and strong side end, he will draw more attention while in the portal. Auburn is hoping to have a big jump on the competition. There is a strong need at Auburn as well. As of right now no visit to Auburn is scheduled yet."
Mesidor ended the 2021 season with 38 total tackles, 24 solo tackles, and 4.5 sacks. If Auburn football can get him to join the roster, he would add much-needed depth behind Derick Hall and Eku Leota.
