Auburn football fans are worried that they are being played by an in-state 5-star DB like someone skeptical about re-entering the dating scene after heartbreak.

Of course, the Tigers are linked to most AL recruits, but Nick Saban’s grip on this state’s talent pool is sickeningly tight. Recruiting heartbreak isn’t exactly a new concept on the Plains.

That’s why when recent Alabaster DB recruit Tony Mitchell spoke about wanting to see why Auburn was a great place for him, Tiger fans called him out on Jason Caldwell’s 247Sports story’s tweet.

Here are a few of the scorned Auburn football fans unwilling to believe there is actual interest from Mitchell:

Auburn football fans aren’t taking the bait, nor should they.

It’s a bad look when the crystal ball says Alabama, LSU, and Florida (in that order), Auburn is nowhere to be seen, and his quote–““I just want to continue to build the relationships and see why Auburn would be a great place for me”–reads as playing hard to get.

It’s a good thing that Tiger fans aren’t playing dumb. Mitchell is akin to a frat bro just trying to say the right things to keep his options open. AU fans getting their hopes up are simply DB crazy and unable to read the signs.

When the day comes, Mitchell will choose the ‘team up north’ and Auburn fans that never fell for the bait will be better off for it.
