As recruiting for the cycle of 2023 begins to heat up across the country, Auburn football is making prospects close to home a major priority this spring. Launching the “Tiger Takeover” earlier this week, members of the Tigers’ coaching staff plan to visit 230 schools across the state of Alabama over the next two weeks.
One of those in-state schools, Montgomery Catholic, is home to a top target for the Tigers’ recruiting class of 2023 in 4-star running back Jeremiah Cobb. Listed as the #267 overall prospect and the #16 running back in the class of 2023, Cobb is ranked as the #19 recruit out of the state of Alabama.
The 4-star RB has taken three visits to the Plains, so far, his most recent trip taking place on April 9. He plans to be back on campus this weekend for another unofficial visit. Cobb reports that in addition to Auburn football, the schools recruiting him the hardest include Penn State, Louisville, UCF, Tennessee, and Florida, but he’s building strong bonds with both head coach Bryan Harsin and running backs coach Cadillac Williams, per Auburn Live:
"“I talk to Coach Cadillac (Williams) and Coach Bryan Harsin every day,” Cobb said. “I really like them. They definitely are recruiting me very hard.”"
Before his recruitment winds down, Cobb plans to take official visits over the next few months and is aiming to announce his commitment at the end of the summer, though nothing is set in stone.
Currently, the 247 Sports Crystal Ball predicts that the top running back in the state will end up on the Plains for his collegiate career, and it’s possible that the allure of early playing time following Tank Bigsby’s likely exit to the NFL after this season could make that prediction come true.
While Jeremiah Cobb is in no rush to make a final decision, the Tigers will continue to push for the RB as one of their top 2023 targets.
