As the May 1 deadline for the NCAA transfer portal draws closer, the Auburn football coaching staff is still searching for talent to add to the 2022 roster. While getting wide receivers and offensive lineman is still the top priority, the Tigers are offering players in other positions, as well.

Most recently, Auburn football extended an offer to former Nebraska Husker Casey Rogers. The Connecticut native was a 3-star defensive end prospect out of high school and received offers from a number of top programs including Ole Miss, Ohio State, and Alabama, but ultimately chose to take his talents to Nebraska.

Rogers spent four years in Lincoln, redshirting in 2018 and ultimately seeing his first game action in 2019, when he played in four matchups for the Huskers. The DE played in every game as a sophomore, and even earned one start against Northwestern.

Last season, a fall camp injury kept Rogers out of the first five games of the Huskers’ season, but he totaled 17 tackles, three tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks over the seven final games of 2021. According to Husker Online, Rogers is the first scholarship player to enter the transfer portal from Nebraska following spring training.

Auburn football expressed early interest in Casey Rogers, per Auburn Wire, and the allure of increased playing time and a chance to show off his talent in the elite SEC could make the Tigers a strong contender for the former Big Ten defender.

Other programs that have offered Rogers include Louisville, Oregon State, Virginia, USC, Washington, TCU, and Arkansas. As a graduate transfer, Rogers will have two years of eligibility left, and could still choose to return to Nebraska to use them, but that scenario is unlikely.

For now, Jimmy Brumbaugh and the rest of the coaching staff will be working to get a commitment from the defensive end.
