Auburn football head coach Bryan Harsin took another step in the process of being an Alabaman in showing up before Sunday’s NASCAR race at the Talladega Superspeedway.
The GEICO 500 began only after Harsin did a lap with the Pace Car, which is a car that limits the speed of competing cars should a caution period take place.
Sunday’s 188-lap event on Talladega’s 2.66-mile, 33-degree banked venue began at 2 p.m. CT.
Here were some varied Auburn football fan reactions to the Tigers head coach getting involved in one of East Central Alabama’s most storied traditions:

As it turns out, this wasn’t Auburn football HC Bryan Harsin’s first experience around a racetrack:
Bryan Harsin said he grew up around drag racing. Said he did nostalgia racing…drove an alcohol funny car for awhile. Says it’s a little different than this but he’s been around racing environments. @wsfa12news pic.twitter.com/4vT5eYSH3s

Auburn football HC Bryan Harsin must save his job this coming season
While these sort of public appearances are great, they won’t save Bryan Harsin’s Auburn football HC job if the Tigers don’t turn things around in 2022.
At this point, he’s done his part this offseason. Auburn is a much tighter knit group than they were last year, and the ‘Tiger Takeover‘ is already in full swing. If that doesn’t translate to wins, than the AU BoT will find someone that can establish a good culture that does.
