Auburn football HC Bryan Harsin is about as ready as all of us to finally put to rest questions about who will be the starting quarterback during the 2022 season.

In answering a reporter’s question about the QB battle during an AU alumni event in Atlanta, Harsin had a pre-planned response filled with humor and a hint of frustration.

“I told you guys who the starter is, right?” quipped the second-year Tigers coach when speaking to reporters this past week. Unfortunately, it’s been a blurrier picture than ever following an A-Day where projected third-stringer Robby Ashford outshined the only incumbent option in the QB room, T.J. Finley.

Well, some clarity has been provided on when we might know when the Auburn football QB1 will be named. Harsin provided a full timeline on the decision he and his coaching staff will make that may well determine the season’s trajectory:

"“Every one of those guys — coming out of my meeting and Coach Kiesau’s meeting — they have a plan. This is what you need to be doing in May. This is what we’re doing in June. This is what you need to get done in July.’ August is going to be a big month; we’ll make a decision in August."

The Auburn football QB options will be battling all summer for the starting job

Once Zach Calzada returns to practice as a full participant able to take hits and simulate real-time situations, the QB battle will officially begin. In the meantime, T.J. Finley has a hold on the starting job, but Robby Ashford is building momentum to be the starter following an A-Day MVP performance back on April 9th.

With four months left before the September 3rd opener against Mercer, there’s plenty of posturing to be done in the race to start under center for the Tigers in 2022.
