Things are heating up in the world of recruiting for the Auburn football coaching staff as spring fades away and the summer months begin. Prospects from the around the country are narrowing their potential schools lists, setting visits, and getting closer to their final decisions.

3-star tight end Reid Mikeska made his choice earlier this year, committing to Clemson on April 13 after visiting the campus in March. However, things have clearly changed for the TE as he announced on social media this past week that he was decommitting from the Tigers and reopening his recruitment.

Mikeska is listed as the #484 overall prospect and the #26 tight end in the recruiting class of 2023 and is the #78 recruit out of the state of Texas.

Auburn football tight ends coach Brad Bedell is pushing very hard to get 4-star tight end Jelani Thurman to commit to the Tigers, but because he would play more of a tight end/wide receiver hybrid role for the team similar to Landen King, it’s possible that Auburn would also sign a more traditional tight end to the 2023 roster as well.

As has been the way with many top recruits that have already committed, Auburn never backed down on recruiting Mikeska despite his commitment to Clemson. In fact, the tight end visited the Plains back in March, and after he announced that he would be reopening his recruitment, Director of Recruitment Darren Uscher and Director of Player Personnel Steven Ruzic both retweeted photos from Mikeska’s visit.

According to Steve Wiltfong, Mikeska plans to visit several schools before making his decision. He will be in Norman to check out the Oklahoma Sooners this weekend:

An official visit for Reid Mikeska to the Plains should be coming soon.
