Auburn basketball transfer Johni Broome announced four days ago that he’d be withdrawing his name from the 2022 NBA Draft pool.
It was a formality after the Morehead State transfer chose Bruce Pearl and the Tigers as his transfer destination.
Jon Rothstein announced it himself on Tuesday afternoon, and Auburn basketball fans didn’t let him off easy for it.
Here was Rothstein sleeping in May–and being dragged for it–as he advises us all to do every year until the March Madness tournament concludes in early April:
Auburn's Johni Broome tells me that he has officially withdrawn from the 2022 NBA Draft.

Transfer from Morehead State.
Averaged 16.8 PPG and 10.5 RPG last season.
Oh the relief! I wasn’t quite too sure when I saw Johni’s post about it 4 days ago! Glad it’s official now. https://t.co/SZISgtIn0U

Some college hoops fans gave Broome his flowers instead of giving Rothstein hell for the gaffe:
Bruce Pearl must be one happy coach. Auburn will officially feature one of the nations top shots blockers for the 2nd season in a row, with Broome coming in to replace Walker Kessler. The Tigers should compete towards the top of the SEC once again in 2022-23 🐅 https://t.co/CgBSrqMmGd

Broome excelled against OVC competition and performed well in the OVC Tournament championship game in each of the last two seasons.

It'll be incredibly fascinating to see what he can do against SEC competition. https://t.co/N4Z6xH2hcq
Johni Broome is expected to take over the shot-blocking role Walker Kessler occupied last season. Broome was third in shot-blocks during the 2021-22 season.
