Auburn football fans got after Georgia HC Kirby Smart for his support of Alabama HC Nick Saban’s recent NIL comments directed towards Texas A&M HC Jimbo Fisher that forced him to have to issue an apology.
Saban insinuated that the Crimson Tide had not paid for ‘a single player’, and that Fisher’s program was gaming the system in order to land the highest-rated recruits:
"“We were 2nd in recruiting last year. A&M was first. A&M bought every player on their team. Made a deal for name, image and likeness. We didn’t buy one player. But I don’t know if we’re going to be able to sustain that in the future because more and more people are doing it.”"
Auburn football fans are dragging Kirby Smart for agreeing with Saban’s sentiment
Kirby Smart made waves when he backed Saban’s sentiment in speaking to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
"“I just want to make sure that the game stays at a point where we can control it. I’m all for the players. We’ve had a lot of players getting opportunities with name, image, likeness. I would just like it where a decision isn’t based on where ‘I’m going to the highest bidder.’ If we could control that some kind of way, it would be much better.”"
Auburn football fans made sure to let Smart know just how absurd it was that he was speaking this way, especially considering his program is in the mix for perhaps the biggest NIL recruiting beneficiary around, Arch Manning:

While i agree, it's funny to hesr Smart and Saban crying about other teams getting to do what they've been doing for a while now. https://t.co/2t8WMZhWID

Rules for thee, not for me, so says Kirby.
