There are less than 100 days until Week 1 of the college football season, and the Oregon Ducks have a critical decision to make ahead of their season’s biggest game: start former Auburn football QB Bo Nix or roll the dice on an unproven commodity like Ty Thompson (or Jay Butterfield)?

That decision could determine how the country views them when all eyes are fixated on an inter-conference collision between the defending CFP National Champion Georgia Bulldogs and a team that got clowned in the Pac-12 championship by Utah.

Oregon is one of the most perennially talent-rich teams on the West Coast, and they may have struck gold by getting a signal-caller that left a seemingly tailor-made situation for reasons that are sure to be fully revealed in the coming years.

It’d be the wrong choice not to start Nix for the season-opener on the road at a ‘neutral site’ game in Atlanta that will assuredly be a Bulldogs home game.

While Bo Nix never beat Georgia in three tries with Auburn football, throwing just one TD to two interceptions during his time with the Tigers, he did forge some thick skin being tackled by many future NFL Draft selections.

Ty Thompson and Jay Butterfield have a combined 18 pass attempts in their careers. Nix has never thrown less than 197 passes in a given season and has thrown 128 passes against Georgia alone in his three seasons.

Throwing out two young QBs into the fire in front of a red-hot Mercedes-Benz Stadium crowd could have severe ramifications, particularly relative to sending Nix out as a fourth-year graduate transfer that beat Alabama his freshman season.

There’s no doubt that Nix is the obvious choice to be the Week 1 starter for Oregon vs. Georgia.
