Auburn football fans were among those in the SEC that took Crain & Company’s Jake Crain’s hypothetical about trading a team out of the conference as a chance to advocate for Vanderbilt’s demotion from the top football conference in the country.
Vanderbilt has been in the SEC for almost 89 years and has not once won a football championship. The Commodores have won five games in the past three seasons. Vandy hasn’t made a New Year’s 6 bowl game since the 1970s.
Must we go on? There’s a very clear and present reason why Auburn football fans and their SEC brethren feel that there is a black sheep in the conference, willing to overlook Nashville’s flagship university’s contributions to other sports.
The poor Commodores never saw the masses calling for their exile coming:
If you could trade one team in the SEC who would it be? And who are you replacing them with?

Mine:
Trading Vanderbilt for North Carolina @biscuitsandsec @SECbias12 @NCAAFNation247
Trade Vandy for clem so they can finally play a real schedule https://t.co/9XORDDDn0m

Trading Vandy but for Florida State instead. Especially with all the schedule talk they can keep that game with Florida in tact and still find a way to play Miami. https://t.co/Dzz9quQ7R7

Vandy for USC - Lincoln Riley can’t hide forever

Missouri or Vanderbilt for Florida St or Clemson

Mizzou also got plenty of calls for removal, while some SEC fans dreamed about a schedule absent of Alabama.
Either way, it’s clear that Vanderbilt has very little respect from the rest of the conference. Perhaps exceeding their 2.5 over/under 2022 win total would help change some minds out there.
