Auburn football beat reporter Joseph Goodman, once the leader of the anti-Bryan Harsin bandwagon at AL.com, is pro-barn in most other aspects of coverage.

Goodman took aim at Tennessee baseball–which has been a lightning rod of controversy all season and offseason due to the brazen behavior of head coach Tony Vitello, who bumped into an umpire in a violent matter over a call in their Alabama matchup, and right-fielder Jordan Beck’s bird-flips to Georgia Tech’s outfield rounding first-base in the 2022 Road to the College World Series Regional Round–and the Alabama Crimson Tide fanbase in one fell swoop Saturday afternoon.

Goodman said that ‘Tennessee baseball players are closely related to Alabama football fans’ on his verified Twitter account.

That was not the first time a reporter has called out the ‘Bama fanbase. In 2013, Outkick’s Clay Travis, then working for Fox Sports, claimed that the Tide have the dumbest fanbase in the country:

"“The Alabama Crimson Tide fan base is the dumbest in the country and there isn’t a close second. Alabama’s fan base stupidity is not a function of a small minority of bad apples ruining it for the rest of the fans, nope, it’s the majority of the fan base that gives Alabama fans a bad name. Let’s be clear about this, Harvey Updyke was not an outlier. When news broke that authorities had arrested a man for poisoning the trees at Auburn, millions of Alabama fans secretly thought to themselves, “God, I hope it’s not Uncle Ray.”"

Rocky Top has seen some rocky times this past year themselves, with Volunteers football fans famously hurling mustard bottles and golf balls at Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin during their matchup at Neyland Stadium this past October and all the controversy the baseball team has caused.

It’s always great to see the Auburn football beat sling shots at opponents not living by the Auburn Creed in any sport.
