Auburn football: AL.com names a quarterback the No. 1 Class of 2023 target
Auburn football has just two recruits for the Class of 2023 so far, getting commits from 4-star defensive back Terrance Love of Fairburn, Georgia, and Auburn High School 4-star OL Bradyn Joiner.
The Tigers are off to a strong start in recruiting, but their 2023 recruiting class falls far behind–from a sheer volume standpoint–Georgia (10), Arkansas (12), LSU and Texas A&M (5), and Alabama (4).
That is to be expected after Bryan Harsin experienced the most hellish offseason a head coach can experience without being fired and his Tigers fell apart down the stretch of his initial season on the Plains, losing their final five games.
That could change soon, with July being a potential timetable for when their next recruit may commit. JUCO veteran Justin Jefferson of Memphis, Tennessee is being eyed by the coaching staff as a grad transfer, but even still, the Tigers need a top-line target to inspire confidence in the current regime.
Enter Brock Glenn, who AL.com’s Nick Alvarez called the No. 1 Auburn football target for the Class of 2023:
"“The biggest target for Auburn literally has the school in his name. Auburn Brock Glenn, named after his grandfather and Auburn alum, is also one of the last dominoes to fall in the 2023 quarterback shuffle. From Lausanne (Tenn.) Collegiate, Glenn has had a dynamite spring by earning a trip to the Elite 11 finals and getting courted by some of the biggest programs in the country that have yet to sign a thrower this upcoming class. Expected to compete with Florida State, Ohio State and others, Auburn would land a huge recruiting win by signing the four-star. 247Sports has a pair of Crystal Ball predictions tying the country’s 18th-ranked quarterback to the Plains. Glenn, who threw for 23 touchdowns last season compared to nine interceptions, plans to commit ahead of the Elite 11 finals on June 28.”"
Brock Glenn will never thrive as a Tiger if Auburn football doesn’t also land OL help
Brock Glenn, like Bo Nix, stands at six-foot-two, weighs around 200 pounds, and has a family legacy at Auburn University. Where the two need to be different if Glenn is indeed Plains-bound–besides the fact that Nix was more of a dual-threat and Glenn is a pure passer–is in the protection offered to them by their respective offensive lines.
We know how Nix’s orange and blue stint went after priding himself on not being sacked at Pinson: constantly running for his life against the beastly defensive fronts of the SEC and being criticized for not being the most accurate passer.
Glenn could only avoid that fate if the Auburn football coaching staff enables him to and makes good on the wide net being cast for the Class of 2023. Three of the top 10 targets Alvarez listed are along the offensive trenches.
